The John Lawson Pier is one of the classic piers along the West Vancouver shoreline. I painted this on plein air while sitting on a rock on the beach, such a great day!!

West Coast Colour – Sold 12 x 12, oil on cradled panel
This is not particular place but it is painted from a series of photos I had taken in the Gulf Islands. It captures familiar elements that are so recognizable in the Gulf Island such as the sandstone rock with pockets of sand, the outlined points of land that open to narrow water passages, distant landforms … Read More

Forefather 8 x 10, acrylic on canvas
This is a graceful old stump from a large and old growth tree. There are hundred of old stumps in and around the forest. Painted up the mountains, near where I live, I began this piece plein aire.
Early Evening View 8 x 8, oil on panel
This time of year the sun sets behind Bowen Island, but before it disappears behind the island, it throws a reflection out onto the water. Little Passage Island is in the painting to the left.
Turbulent Water 12 x 24, acrylic on canvas
A very windy day and the ocean was moving and crashing around creating many shades of white near the shore. Turbulent Water for turbulent times.
First Narrows Sunset 8 x 10, oil on canvas
On a boat and on our way back from Indian Arm the sun was setting behind the Lions Gate Bridge. The colours streaking across the sky and reflecting in the water caught my attention.

The sun setting in the west catches on the buildings at the University of British Columbia. Painted from a beach in West Vancouver. Juried into the Federation Gallery on Granville Island, Aug. 2020.
Silva Bay 16 x 20, oil on canvas
A lovely anchorage located just off Gabriola Island in the Gulf Islands. I have not been to Silva Bay in a long time, so I painted from a photo and took some liberties with the sky.
Capilano River 8 x 10, acrylic on canvas

For me everything naturally came together in this view, dark against light and the lead in to the bridge is the reflected clouds with their perfectly placed reflectatory lines of the clouds in the river. This sketch was painted from a photo I took when … Read More
