West Coast Habitat 24 x 30 acrylic on canvas

Although the small rock islands and their hardy trees are the main focus of this painting, sitting just above the horizon is a large billowy cumulous cloud.  The cloud held particular interest to me with its subtle light shade variations. As a small technical note I described the cloud with white gesso to give it some … Read More

West Coast Reflections 18 x 24 acrylic on canvas - sold

The reflections of the sea stacks are captured in the small pools on the beach.   In the reality the ocean and beach are very large and I enjoy giving the sea stacks and their foliage a large presence on the canvas.

The Sea 36 x 48 acrylic on canvas

More than anything else I was capturing a sense of place in this piece.  I am very drawn to water, especially the beach and the sea!!

From one beach across to another.  This spot is on Vancouver Island looking west across to Rathtrevor Beach.  The trees framed the afternoon scene.

Forest Reflections 2 18 x 24 acrylic on canvas

This piece was worked up from a small plein air piece that I painted at a small lake near Whistler.  I am not sure if this lake actually has a formal name, it is so small that it is affectionally referred to as “The Back Lake”

Green Lake Reflections 11 x 14 acrylic on canvas - sold

I was very fortunate to stay at Green Lake for a few days and the weather was perfect for a little plein air painting.  The shapes of the trees and their reflections, spilling across the lake, were captivating!!  So appreciative to have the opportunity.

Fort Berens Vineyard 8 x 10 acrylic on canvas

This is an unexpected and delightful vineyard and tasting house in Lillooet BC.  Set against the mountains, the colours in this vineyard made a wonderful scene.  I had a lovely lunch with a glass of Fort Berens wine, delicious!!

Lynn Creek 8 x 10 acrylic on canvas - sold

With this piece I was almost standing in the creek at the Lynn Canyon Headwaters Park.  It was a beautiful day, the landscape was full of greens and the sound of the creek is a meditation in itself!

Hydrangea 8 x 8 acrylic on canvas

With a hydrangea from the garden and a small mason jar I set up a small still life set up in my shadow box, adjusted the light and set to colour to canvas.  This is the result!!

Artist Statement

As a visual artist I am always on the lookout for the light or the moment that inspires my next piece. Virtually anything could move me to capture a particular moment, for example, the way the light hits an object, the temperature of the air or a feeling in a particular location. I have always had a passion to create and my goal is to keep painting until it is time to leave. I continue to grow, improve and savour my art as passion drives me forever forward with my work.
