Gabriola Island 16 x 20, oil on cradled panel

Gabriola Island 16 x 20, oil on cradled panel

April 9, 2022By Elizabeth AustinLandscape, Painting No Comments

This view is from the beach in the beautiful Drumbeg Provincial Park on Gabriola Island.  The thin row of trees in the distance are markedly unique and allow the light to shine through the trunks of the trees.   Much of the beach is sandstone that is shaped by sea worn crevasses.

Pachena Bay, Bamfield -SOLD 11 x 14, acrylic on canvas

April 9, 2022By Elizabeth AustinLandscape, Painting No Comments

I was hiking along Pachena Bay, in Bamfield, last summer and looked back into the bay and took a photo.  The beauty of the landscape and the lines in the image wanted to be a painting.

Eagle Harbour Light – SOLD 12 x 12, acrylic on cradled panel

Eagle Harbour Light – SOLD 12 x 12, acrylic on cradled panel

April 9, 2022By Elizabeth AustinLandscape, Painting No Comments

The light at the end of the day shines on a quiet Eagle Harbour.  The setting sun shines on to the rocks and shining through the trees a lovely contrast is developed.  Even on a very cold winter’s day the light on the landscape warms my heart.

Cox Bay, Tofino Sunset 36 x 48, acrylic on canvas

Cox Bay, Tofino Sunset 36 x 48, acrylic on canvas

February 26, 2022By Elizabeth AustinLandscape, Painting No Comments

I was fortunate to have been at Cox Bay and it is a beautiful 1.5 km. beach with amazing rock outcroppings!  The sunset was stunning!  I painted this piece from a sketch I did on site and a photo I took.  This piece received Honourable Mention at the Federation Gallery.

This beautiful home, now known as the “Lodge”, was designed and built by very talented friends who have great attention to detail!  It was such fun to be a part of a special surprise painting for a special person and I had such fun painting it!!

Brady’s Beach, Lone Tree – SOLD 11 x 14, acrylic on cradled panel

November 7, 2021By Elizabeth AustinLandscape, Painting No Comments

A lone tree stands strong and proud on a small little islet at Brady’s Beach in Bamfield, BC.  The vegetation that survives on the west coast sea stacks alway impresses me with its tenaciousness!

Cox Bay, Tofino – SOLD 12 x 12, acrylic on cradled panel

November 7, 2021By Elizabeth AustinLandscape, Painting No Comments

Facing directly west Cox Bay is one of the best places to observe the sunset on the west coast.  The colours and the reflections in the incoming tide are a privilege to behold!  Previously called False Bay, Cox Bay gained its name from John Henry Cox who lead one of the earliest fur trading expeditions … Read More

Brady’s Beach, Late Afternoon – SOLD 8 x 8, oil on cradled panel

November 6, 2021By Elizabeth AustinLandscape, Painting 2 Comments

Located in Bamfield BC is Brady’s Beach and I am told that it is one of the most photographed beaches on west coast.   There are several sea stacks at Brady’s Beach, which provides wonderful choice views for an artist.

Incinerator Rock, Tofino – SOLD 8 x 8, oil on cradled panel

Incinerator Rock, Tofino – SOLD 8 x 8, oil on cradled panel

November 6, 2021By Elizabeth AustinLandscape, Painting No Comments

Incinerator Rock is an ideal little west coast islet that got its name during WWII as a place to burn military garbage.  The location of Incinerator Rock serves as a natural separation between the Estowista First Nations reserve and Long Beach, Tofino.

Artist Statement

As a visual artist I am always on the lookout for the light or the moment that inspires my next piece. Virtually anything could move me to capture a particular moment, for example, the way the light hits an object, the temperature of the air or a feeling in a particular location. I have always had a passion to create and my goal is to keep painting until it is time to leave. I continue to grow, improve and savour my art as passion drives me forever forward with my work.
