I started with a sketch intending to do a painting, but very quickly the sketch took on a life of its own and captured a rare glimpse of a little girl who rarely sits still. Haha! So I put a fixative and a sealer on the sketch and called it done.
A very windy day and the ocean was moving and crashing around creating many shades of white near the shore. Turbulent Water for turbulent times.
On a boat and on our way back from Indian Arm the sun was setting behind the Lions Gate Bridge. The colours streaking across the sky and reflecting in the water caught my attention.

A lovely anchorage located just off Gabriola Island in the Gulf Islands. I have not been to Silva Bay in a long time, so I painted from a photo and took some liberties with the sky.
The focus is the white bridge that crosses the river. Marigolds are one of my favourite flowers! They bloom all summer long and are dense with shades of orange, so bright and cheery! I placed them in a small mason jar on my table and painted them on a large scale.
This piece was painted from a photo I took on a hike up to Whyte Lake in West Vancouver. While the background trees remained in deep shade, the foreground trees turned golden as they basked in the late afternoon sun light. The little Whyte Lake was completely calm and the forest reflections were beautiful!
A little burnt orange shed with nets hanging from the rafters sits at the rustic dock. Fun to paint a such a lovely Newfoundland sight.
Beside the boat ramp at Quidi Vidi Harbour, sat a group of small buildings and boats floated at the docks.
