The Battery is a small community in the city of St. John’s Newfoundland. It sits along the waterfront of Signal Hill’s steep slopes, at the entrance to St. John’s Harbour. The windy narrow streets of The Battery at some places only allow the width of one car and as you can see in my painting the roads are often built around the rock outcroppings. This was painted from a photo I took when I toured the Battery and talked to a delightful couple that lived their and told me about the local nuances of the area…so fun!!
