The reflections of the sea stacks are captured in the small pools on the beach. In the reality the ocean and beach are very large and I enjoy giving the sea stacks and their foliage a large presence on the canvas.
Whytecliff Park offers a lovely view to the west towards little Passage Island and beyond to Vancouver Island. This piece was started plein air and completed in the studio.
More than anything else I was capturing a sense of place in this piece. I am very drawn to water, especially the beach and the sea!!
From one beach across to another. This spot is on Vancouver Island looking west across to Rathtrevor Beach. The trees framed the afternoon scene.
This piece was worked up from a small plein air piece that I painted at a small lake near Whistler. I am not sure if this lake actually has a formal name, it is so small that it is affectionally referred to as “The Back Lake”
I was very fortunate to stay at Green Lake for a few days and the weather was perfect for a little plein air painting. The shapes of the trees and their reflections, spilling across the lake, were captivating!! So appreciative to have the opportunity.
This is an unexpected and delightful vineyard and tasting house in Lillooet BC. Set against the mountains, the colours in this vineyard made a wonderful scene. I had a lovely lunch with a glass of Fort Berens wine, delicious!!
