I was smiling when I painted this one!! I did not realize until after I completed “Piggy” but the pig is the 12th animal in the Chinese zodiac according to the Chinese calendar and 2019 it is the year of the pig!! Coincidences never cease to humour me!!

Here is a fun way to look at the art of colour….With paint from my pallet, I dragged the brush across the canvas and and I left light in the sky. The sea stacks and their inhabitants standout against the colour in the sky.

There are literally a hundred or more islands in the Broken Group of Islands. In this painting the setting sun fills the sky with light and reflects in the sea while almost silhouetting the little island. The clouds were so fun to paint!! Big strokes sweep across the sky!!

A favourite subject of mine is Whyte Islet in Whytecliff Park. It is of particular interest in the morning when the eastern side of the island is bathed in morning light. The clouds captured a thread of this light on their lower edges and their shapes add movement to the painting.
