Turbulent Waters 12 x 24, acrylic on canvas

Turbulent Waters 12 x 24, acrylic on canvas

April 24, 2020By Elizabeth AustinUncategorized No Comments

The ocean is caught on a very windy day.  The seawater moved exuding  sensations of confusion, anxiety and anger.   The ocean also has days when it is  completely calm and reflective, emanating peace, joy and love.  Everyday the ocean is different.  Perhaps it is obvious but I feel very connected to the ocean. Here … Read More

Capilano River 8 x 10, acrylic on canvas

Capilano River 8 x 10, acrylic on canvas

The focus is the white bridge that crosses the river.  For me everything naturally came together in this view, dark against light and the lead in to the bridge is the reflected clouds with their perfectly placed reflectatory lines of the clouds in the river.  This sketch was painted from a photo I took when … Read More

Marigolds 36 x 36, acrylic on canvas

Marigolds are one of my favourite flowers!  They bloom all summer long and are dense with shades of orange, so bright and cheery!  I placed them in a small mason jar on my table and painted them on a large scale.

Forest Reflections 1 – Sold 16 x 20, acrylic on canvas

March 2, 2020By Elizabeth AustinLandscape, Painting No Comments

This piece was painted from a photo I took on a hike up to Whyte Lake in West Vancouver.  While the background trees remained in deep shade, the foreground trees turned golden as they basked in the late afternoon sun light. The little Whyte Lake was completely calm and the forest reflections were beautiful!

A new painting for a new baby.  The snow drops and crocuses are in bloom and with spring on its way, the little rabbit takes delight in putting flowers on top her hat.

A little burnt orange shed with nets hanging from the rafters sits at the rustic dock.  Fun to paint a such a lovely Newfoundland sight.

Beside the boat ramp at Quidi Vidi Harbour, sat a group of small buildings and boats floated at the docks.

Another slice of Quidi Vidi Harbour in Newfoundland.  The rocky cliffs are such a lovely backdrop for the little buildings along the coast.

Artist Statement

As a visual artist I am always on the lookout for the light or the moment that inspires my next piece. Virtually anything could move me to capture a particular moment, for example, the way the light hits an object, the temperature of the air or a feeling in a particular location. I have always had a passion to create and my goal is to keep painting until it is time to leave. I continue to grow, improve and savour my art as passion drives me forever forward with my work.
