I was fortunate to cross the Strait of Georgia and capture photos of the tiny Flat Top Islands which are located just off Gabriola Island.
I caught another of the cutest spirits in graphite on a cradled panel. So fun!!
With the stunning quiet light stretching across the water right towards me and I sketched this stunning sunset when I was in Newfoundland last year. The highlights on the dark rocks framed the scene beautifully!! From my sketch and a photo, I painted the piece when I got home.
I was invited to “Paint on the Mountain” 2020 at Cypress Mountain, West Vancouver, hosted by British Pacific Properties. It was a plein air competition with 12 artists participating. This piece was painted plein air, in the “Paint on the Mountain” 2020 invitational competition. So fun to participate and meet other plein air artists!! There is a small stream, named Godman Creek, that meanders through the designated painting area with a small pool that opened up revealing nice reflections.
I was painting outdoors at the beach and the seagulls became very interested in what I was doing. As the seagulls will not pose for any length of time, I began taking a few photos of the gulls and caught this one who looked at me out of one eye!!
The little sea stacks must have their own build in wisdom that allows them to host a whole ecosystem in such a small space. Their beauty never fails to impress me and always fun to paint. This painting was juried into the Federation Gallery for the Vancouver Salon 2020 exhibition.
